Now listen to a story that really, really matters

About the greatest darn pilot of the Sierra Nevadas

And the tales of his prowess; well, they’re the stuff of legend.

Now some folks say he was eight-foot two

And born on a cloud as the son of Zeus

And his name was Duckee Tahoe, if I didn’t mention.

He could outfly an eagle any day of the year

And could thread the needle and bring you to tears.

But all of that, well, that’s only half the story.

Cuz the biggest secret to all of his success

Was the brain that sat atop of his neck

For it was responsible for all his flying glory.

See there’s so many Tahoe treasures to visit.

All the lakes and the trails and the skiing and the vistas

And it’s that mountain quiet that Duckee truly savors.

So noise abatement stays at the top of his mind

He follows our procedures, for it’s only kind.

Cuz’ Duckee knows what it means to be a good neighbor.

And before he came with his engines-a-blazin’

To our little airport down deep in the basin.

He learned the lay of the land, if you know what I mean.

Like how in the middle of the summer’s heat

With the landing strip at o’er five thousand feet

The density altitude can rise like you’ve never seen.

But that ain’t the only trick to flying in the mountains

There’s wind shear and turbulence that you can surely count on

And you always gotta account for the rising terrain.

Which reminds me…oh, yeah…there’s no radar here

But don’t you worry and don’t you fear

Our Truckee Tahoe Tower will lead the way.

And when the mercury drops and the sky turns grey,

You might see a big patch of blue sky and say

“I’ll head for that blue hole in my aero-plane.”

But Ducky would tell you that that’s not wise.

Cuz before you know it, you’d be covered in ice,

Which can make your rising ascent so very strained.

But clouds aren’t the only thing above our skies

There’s Gulfstreams and Cessnas and planes that glide.

Cuz if it can land on their runway, well, Truckee’s probably seen it.

And desert ain’t the only thing you’ll see on the ground.

They’ve got the friendliest airport around.

Those are Duckee’s words for sure…and I know he means it.

They’ll pick up your bags and push out your plane

Gas you all up and do a lavatory drain.

And even start you up if you need them to.

There’s parking and hangars and rental cars

And friendly people who’ll treat you like a star.

And answer all your questions before you say ‘adieu.’

So, maybe you think Duckee’s a mythical legend

But the lessons he taught should never be questioned.

Remember his words and they will keep you calm.
