Workplace from Facebook, Explained
Workplace from Facebook (now Workplace from Meta) is a communication platform that connects employees across a company, no matter their level in the organization. Built on the familiar Facebook platform, Workplace has dozens of features that make connecting easier.
But prospective users were having trouble wrapping their heads around exactly what Workplace was: “Is it like Slack? Or Microsoft Teams? Or Zoom? Or like a project management software?” The answer to all these questions was the same: “Yes! But there’s so much more!”
With a cut-out, almost homemade style, the new Workplace video captured the essence of the platform in a simple way that puts the needs of the audience first.
The Script
Whether it’s a favorite sweatshirt, the way you take your coffee, or even a couch blanket, everybody loves what’s familiar.
And it’s the same at work.
Want to reach an entire organization? Best to use a platform everybody already knows.
Want to connect with a small group? Use the specialized tools that you’re used to.
Because who wants to learn another ‘everything’ app when you can stick with what’s familiar?
The thing is, though: sticking with what’s familiar is what Workplace from Facebook is all about.
So, time for the origin story!
Facebook is growing.
New offices are sprouting up.
And though they long for togetherness, they’re forced to work remotely. NO GLOBE!
They want to connect with their workmates AND have a forum for unique projects.
So, using what would eventually become the most popular platform on the planet, they build what we now know as Workplace.
You can chat with workmates...start groups...stream company-wide events....video conference...auto-translate...share resources...all in much the same familiar way you’d do it on Facebook--just without the ads and the social media.
What’s more, it gives every employee, no matter their level, the ability to have real connections with executive leadership--no matter how far away they might seem.
Of course, smaller groups need familiarity, too.
The app that works for one department might not be great for another.
But instead of trying to replace the apps you already know, the platform allows you to integrate them.
G-Suite...Zoom...Dropbox...Microsoft Office...even customized apps you might want to bring along...all in a single space where EVERYONE can gather--either as a group or to do their own thing.
In fact, the platform meets global standards and undergoes stringent security verification audits every year, meaning you can confidently invite external connections into your Workplace.
Yes, there’s power in going back to what’s familiar.
And even though we can’t always “go” to work, we can always meet up at Workplace.
